What to Expect

Upon arriving at the CityU VMC, we will kindly ask you to fill in a questionnaire. This information is very important, simplifies and fastens our work very much. Please do this prior to the visit at home (download from our homepage) or arrive 20 minutes earlier so that we can start the consultation on time. If you need help please let the reception know and we are more than happy to do it together with you.

After this, we would call you into our room, which is very spacious so that even larger dogs can walk around during the analysis of the questionnaire and discussion with you. The next step would include a general examination of your animal to make sure that the general health is fine. This will be followed by a very detailed skin and ear examination. Depending on the presentation, further investigations like cytology (evaluation of cells and microorganisms), trichogram (evaluation of the hair) and skin scrape (search for parasites, fungal structures) will be done. We can provide you with an immediate analysis of these samples within the consultation time.

During the evaluation, you can either wait inside the consultation room or outside in the waiting are, you will be paged in and we could discuss the results, underlying problem and treatment together in detail. A treatment success can only be achieved by you clearly understand the disease of your pet and the treatment options. If possible, we have the same team members so that you are familiar and comfortable with who is taking care of your beloved ones.

What should I bring to my Dermatology consultation?

  • Questionnaire (can be downloaded from the CityU VMC homepage or will be given to you at the reception)
  • Current medications (with clear dosage labels)
  • Current food list (we especially need to know the ingredients you are currently feeding; this is usually written on the back of the can or the bag)
  • Laboratory results

How long will my pet’s appointment take?

The appointment usually takes one hour, but can vary in special circumstances. We like to make sure that we can provide you with the best possible service for you and your pet.

What will happen if I arrive too late?

If you should be late for more than 15 minutes we might ask you to reschedule the booking. This is to ensure you with the best service possible (and this takes time) and also not to let the next person waiting. We thank you for your understanding and being on time.

What if I have a booking but cannot come?

In this case we would kindly ask you to cancel the booking at least 24 hours before the consultation. You can do this by phone or via e-mail. This gives others a chance to come, as our waiting list can be long. If this shouldn’t be the case, we might ask you to pay a deposit before the next appointment.
