Born and raised in New York, USA, Dr. Elvina YAU cultivated her animal-loving nature by immersing herself in the diverse world of veterinary medicine at a young age. After volunteering at farms, zoos, and small animal clinics, she transformed her childhood fascination with animals into a mature understanding and academic interest in their health and well-being. Dr. YAU graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 2016, with a major in Behavioural Neuroscience and a double minor in Creative Writing & Biology. She continued her studies at Cornell University, where she obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with Phi Zeta honours in 2020.
Dr. YAU’s professional interests include soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and conservation. She is also passionate about science communication and believes it is a powerful platform to raise awareness of important topics and highlight the human-animal bond. She values using compassion, transparency, and clinical expertise to deliver personalised medicine, allowing for informed discussion and decision-making with owners to provide quality care to their pets.
Outside of work, Dr. YAU is a foreign language enthusiast, an avid fan of films and television, and enjoys the culinary & performing arts. She has an adventurous spirit and has spent time on 6 continents, researching primates, kangaroos, elephants, and big cats. She has a beloved Shih Tzu and plans to expand her furry family.
