Dr. Bonello graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Turin, in Italy at the age of 22, with a thesis on clinical aspects of periodontal diseases in dogs. After graduating, she obtained a Master’s Degree in Diagnostic Imaging, and a PhD with a Doctoral thesis on oral lesions associated with dermatologic diseases. Veterinary dentistry was her absolute professional interest, and in 1995 she started an Alternate Pathway Residency program with the American Veterinary Dental College, at UC Davis with Prof. Frank Verstraete. Dr. Bonello became an EVDC Board Certified Specialist in Veterinary Dentistry in 1998, when the European College was established and the first examination was set.

Aside from her clinical activities as a specialist, Dr. Bonello participates in teaching and lecturing internationally within the veterinary profession. She is actively engaged and committed to the advancement of professional veterinary dentistry organizations, including serving positions as Past President of the EVDC, SCIVAC (Italian Society of Veterinarians for Companion Animals) and SIODOCOV (Italian Society of Veterinary Dentistry and Maxillo-facial Surgery).

Dr. Bonello routinely performs advance dental procedures in dogs and cats which include all aspects of dentistry, orthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics and maxillofacial surgery, and have a special interest in implantology and feline oral pathology.

She is an author of publications on veterinary and comparative odontostomatology and book chapters, including:
