Dr. Almendros graduated from the University of Murcia, Spain in 2000, winning both Erasmus and Leonardo Da Vinci scholarships to study and work in Lisbon University (Portugal) and Milan (Italy) respectively. After subsequently spending almost two years in a Spanish practice, he then added to his experience working as a veterinarian in the United Kingdom over a period of 8 years. During this time, he also actively participated in NGO projects, volunteering in North India and Thailand for Vets Beyond Borders and PhaNgan Animal Care (PAC).
Dr Almendros has been in Hong Kong since 2011, and is really enjoying both living and working in this vibrant city. He completed a postgraduate certificate PGCertSc and a masters degree MVM in companion animal medicine at Massey University, New Zealand which included papers on Endocrinology, Cardiology, Soft Tissue Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Oncology and an independent research paper on Babesia gibsoni infection, a common infectious disease in Hong Kong that he has continued studying and writing about.
In November 2018 he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) in canine and feline practice. ABVP is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association to offer species-based certification in several practice categories. The American Board of Veterinary Practitioners advances the quality of veterinary medicine through certification of veterinarians who demonstrate excellence in species-oriented clinical practice.
Dr. Almendros is continuously evolving professionally, developing new skills and furthering his career with new challenges. He is a guest lecturer at the Veterinary College of City University of Hong Kong and is actively involved in the writing of scientific articles for publication in several medical journals.
Aside the busy academic and working life of Dr Almendros, he likes travelling and outdoor activities like hiking, cycling, snowboarding and snorkeling, as well as taking advantage of the wide cultural repertoire of theatre, concerts and dining that Hong Kong has to offer.
